Climate Safe Homes - Expressions of interest open

24 Feb 2025

Do you have a chronic health issue that is being made worse because your home is too hot or too cold? The Brotherhood of St Laurence can help.

Climate Safe Homes is an initiative that supports individuals with chronic health conditions, especially those on low incomes, by providing subsidised upgrades to improve home heating, cooling, ceiling insulation, and rooftop solar systems. This program is designed to help people better manage their health while saving on energy bills.

Eligible households receive a free consultation with a BSL energy team member, to help find the right solutions and a substantial subsidy for a home energy upgrade, which may include:

  • an efficient reverse cycle air conditioner, for heating and cooling
  • rooftop solar panels
  • insulation.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Health Care, Pensioner Concession or Gold Card from Centrelink or Veteran’s Affairs
  • Relevant temperature-affected chronic health condition
  • Live in Metropolitan Melbourne
  • Own your home, or in a long-term tenancy with a supportive landlord

If you or someone you know may benefit from this program and meet the eligibility criteria, please submit an expression of interest form.
