AeroChamber Plus* Flow-Vu* Spacers for pressurised metered-dose inhalers

21 Mar 2025

The National Asthma Council Australia, in collaboration with Trudell Medical Australia, has produced a new resource about the importance and benefits of using a spacer with pressurised metered dose inhalers (pMDIs).

Using a spacer improves the clinical effectiveness of pMDIs however only about one in 10 patients can use their inhaler correctly. One of the most common errors is difficulty in coordinating inhalation with actuation of the inhaler.

A spacer allows the patient to inhale the medication at their own pace rather than having to synchronise inhalation with actuation. This can improve medication deposition to lower airways by up to 50%.

Every patient prescribed a pMDI should know how to use a spacer and use it when needed or as directed. Spacers should be selected individually to fit the pMDI.
